Your PTSA at Work: Making a Difference

We are proud to share some of the following PTSA accomplishments for the 2010-2011 school year, including:

  • Welcomed Newcomers with tours and hosted a Newcomer's reception
  • Assembled the "Back to School" Packets and provided volunteers for Packet Pick-Up
  • Welcomed new teachers and provided desserts at orientation luncheon
  • Welcomed parents at Freshman Fling and Rising 9th Grade Orientation
  • Organized and served a Back-To-School Luncheon and provided small gifts for teachers
  • Created, sold, and distributed a student directory 
  • Provided complimentary copies of student directory for teachers and MHS Staff
  • Provided volunteers for Library, Front Office and College & Career Center
  • Provided breakfasts for teachers during mini-conferences
  • Sponsored Parent Networking events including the Principal's Panel for rising 9th graders
  • Represented MHS PTSA at Cluster 1 and Superintendent's Advisory Council Meetings
  • Represented MHS PTSA at Safe Community Coalition Meetings
  • Communicated with FCPS School Board Members on issues affecting our students
  • Advocated for the interests of your students and school through support of County, State, and National PTA's 
  • Provided funding for teacher tickets to "Race To Nowhere" film
  • Facilitated viewing of "Race To Nowhere" for teachers at McLean HS
  • Supported INTERACT Club with Empty Bowls/Stop Hunger Now Project
  • Provided funding for MHS Food Pantry
  • Provided financial assistance to the McLeaders Program
  • Facilitated the Spanish Awards
  • Presented the PTSA Student of the Year Awards during Academic Awards Night
  • Prepared and served an end-of-year luncheon for McLean High School teachers
  • Recognized the administrative staff with gifts during Administrative Professionals Day
  • Recognized the custodians with gift certificates during winter break
  • Cosponsored Multicultural Night with the ICU Club to celebrate the diversity of our school community 
  • Recognized administrative staff at the end of the year with lunch and gifts of appreciation
  • Sponsored an armchair fundraiser
  • Provided a Student Assistance Fund which supported financial assistance with classroom materials and other education-related needs
  • Provided advocacy regarding FCPS Discipline Procedures
  • Provided advocacy regarding Restoring Honors Courses in High School
  • Advocacy for Pedestrian/Vehicle Safety at Westmoreland St Entrance
  • Created an electronic newsletter
  • Maintained the PTSA website 
  • Replacement of Electronic Sign on Westmoreland St (by Fall 2011)
  • Established a pilot program to provide fruit & water during AP exams
  • Adopted Resolution requesting improved school food for FCPS
  • Served on Superintendent's Nutrition Task Force
  • Installation of Salad Bar in school cafeteria
  • Increased access to water in school cafeteria
  • Conducted Student Survey of School Food and Issues 
  • Established Grants Program to support teachers' classroom enrichment activities including:

  • Collaborated with MHS Athletic Boosters on a joint meeting and projects
  • Helped with Ethics Day planning and execution
  • Supported the efforts of the All-Night Grad Party
  • Supported Dr. Jackson's Nomination for FCPS Principal of the Year
  • Requested the MADD Crashed Car for display at the rock entrance
  • Coordinated the Safeway and Giant Scrip programs for MHS
