Each year, the McLean Community Center hosts the Macdonald Performing Arts Scholarship Competition, open to high school students who live or attend school within the McLean Community Center tax district.
The application deadline is October 19.
Students may compete in one or more of four categories:
Theatre
Dance
Vocal Music
Instrumental Music
Three prizes are awarded in each category, ranging from $400 to $1,200. The application fee is $20 per entry, and students may enter multiple categories.

McLean High School PTSA is excited to bring the National PTA Reflections Program to MHS for the 2026–27 school year!
This year’s theme is “What My Culture Means to Me.” Students are invited to express their creativity and share what culture means to them through Visual Arts, Photography, or Literature. Selected entries will have the opportunity to advance to the Fairfax County, Virginia, and National PTA levels

Join the Safe Community Coalition on Monday, November 16, 2026, 7–8:30 p.m. at The Alden Theatre for an evening with New York Times bestselling author and educator Jessica Lahey. Author of The Gift of Failure and The Addiction Inoculation, Jessica will share practical, research-backed strategies for helping teens build resilience and independence while navigating anxiety, substance use, gambling, and other challenges. Are you a McLean High School student, age 13–17, who cares about advocacy, youth voice, and making a difference? National PTA is seeking young leaders to serve on its 2026–2027 Youth Council.
Council members will collaborate with students from across the country, develop leadership and advocacy skills, and help elevate the student perspective on issues that matter to young people and their communities.
Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on September 13.
